The beginning of the history of Fort Smith on the Arkansas river is one of a frontier town at the edge of the wilderness. The museum tells of the difficult times as well as their proud moments & citizens such as William Darby of Darby's Rangers during the 2nd WW.
That night we stayed in Toad Suck state park on the Arkansas river-- a beautiful spot (hard to tell when we arrived in the dark) which was VERY HARD to find. Ask us --we would b happy to share the details of this part of our great adventure with u.
